Second chance for a Marten?

This is what crossed our path today on our way to Ommen (The Netherlands). Probably not a traffic victim, but likely a sick or exhausted (dog attack?) young Pine Marten Martes martes (that's at least what I was told, could it be a Martes foina?). Note the fly eggs and damage to its ear, as well as numerous ticks and fleas on the rest of its body. Picked it up in my sweater, took it with us to the camping and called the animal ambulance that brought it to a recovery center. Job done. It appeared to have enough energy left for a recovery, but we’ll see (an update later?)

  1. Dit us naar mijn idee een Steenmarter. Mvg, G. De Lange
